How the towns differ

Riverton and Bluffdale both buy culinary water from Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District and send sewage to Jordan Basin Improvement District, the same sewer district that serves Herriman. South Jordan is mostly newer housing, and about 70 percent of its homes were built in 2000 or later. West Jordan has a median build year of 1995, so older fixtures and shutoff valves turn up more often.

These differences change what a plumber looks for. A newer home usually points to a water heater, softener or fixture problem. An older home adds worn valves, aging supply lines and drains with a longer history of roots.

What each town has in common with Herriman

All four neighbors sit in the Salt Lake Valley and share parts of the same infrastructure, which makes dispatch simpler and repairs more predictable.

Town by town in one glance

Riverton lies east of Herriman, and its housing runs from established neighborhoods near Riverton City Park to newer areas around Mountain View Village. Its water department also runs a secondary irrigation system that shuts down for winter.

Bluffdale lies south of Herriman. Homes west of Redwood Road are mostly on lots of an acre or more, while the east side has townhomes and smaller lots. Part of the city sits in Utah County, and it shares ZIP 84065 with Riverton.

South Jordan has the newest housing of the group, with Daybreak making up roughly a third of the city. West Jordan is the largest of the four and has the widest range of home ages, from original galvanized plumbing to recent builds.

2. Problem type.

   A burst pipe or sewage backup is routed differently than a slow faucet, even in the same town.

3. Appointment.

   You get a time window and a callback number. If no plumber can reach the address, you hear that immediately.

Coverage can change with crew availability at night, which is why the dispatcher tells you what is realistic instead of promising a clock time.

Why a ZIP code alone is not enough

ZIP boundaries do not match city limits. Riverton and Bluffdale share 84065, and part of Riverton uses 84096, which is also Herriman's ZIP. West Jordan has three ZIP codes that reach past its borders, and South Jordan splits between 84009 and 84095 along Bangerter Highway.

That is why the dispatcher asks for the street address, not only the ZIP. The street tells us which city, which water department and which building department apply to your job.
